We do not represent synthetic or laboratory-grown sapphires as natural gemstones. Any known treatments, including heat treatment, are disclosed on the individual gemstone listing so you can understand what you're purchasing.

A Ceylon sapphire is a sapphire originating from Sri Lanka, which was historically known as Ceylon.

Sri Lanka has a long history of producing exceptional sapphires and is particularly known for its wide variety of colours, including blue, pink, yellow, violet and other naturally occurring shades.

A heated sapphire is a natural sapphire that has undergone controlled heat treatment, commonly used to improve its colour or clarity.

An unheated sapphire has not undergone this treatment.

Both are natural gemstones. Unheated sapphires are generally rarer and can command higher prices when they also possess desirable colour, clarity and overall quality.

Treatment status is only one factor when evaluating a sapphire. An exceptional heated sapphire with beautiful colour, brilliance and cut may be far more visually appealing than an unheated sapphire of lower overall quality.

Unheated stones can carry a rarity premium, but we recommend judging each sapphire as a complete gemstone rather than choosing based on treatment status alone.

Selected Ceylon Crown sapphires are accompanied by reports from independent gemological laboratories. When a sapphire has a laboratory report, this information will be clearly stated on its product page.

For selected gemstones without an existing report, independent laboratory testing may also be arranged upon request where appropriate.

A gemological laboratory report can independently confirm important characteristics such as whether a sapphire is natural and whether detectable treatments are present.

Depending on the stone and laboratory, a report may also provide an opinion on geographic origin.

However, a certificate doesn't determine whether a sapphire is beautiful. Colour, cut, proportions and overall visual character still need to be considered when choosing your stone.
